Sanchezia

Sanchezia

Sanchezia (Sanchezia) - this shrub is distinguished by its spectacular appearance. Most often it is grown in greenhouses, but this plant can also grow at home if it is well cared for. In a room in height, it can reach 150 centimeters. The flower has decorative leaves that look extremely unusual and impressive. On a bright green leaf plate, which has an elongated shape, creamy-golden or yellow veins flaunt. These leaves can be up to about 30 centimeters long.

On the vertically located inflorescence, which rises above the leaves, the flowers of the sanchezia are collected. The tubular inflorescence reaches about 5 centimeters in length, and it is colored purple, yellow or orange. The flowers of this semi-shrub, which grows in natural conditions, and it is found in the subtropical and tropical zones of the South of America, are pollinated by small birds called hummingbirds. After the flower withers, a fruit appears in the same place (two-celled capsule). After the ripe fruit is cracked, the seeds will scatter on different sides. At home, only one type of such shrub is grown - noble sanchetia.

This species is more compact than those that grow in natural conditions and reach about 200 centimeters in height. It is a fairly fast-growing shrub. So, a rather large plant will grow from a small seedling in 2 years.

Sanchezia care at home

Illumination

Illumination

A bright light is required, but at the same time it must be necessarily diffused. Do not let the direct rays of the sun hit directly on the foliage. In no case should the sanchezia be placed on the windowsill during the warm season.

Temperature regime

Loves warmth very much. So, it is recommended to keep this shrub at a room temperature of 15 to 24 degrees. In winter, make sure that the room temperature does not drop below 12 degrees.

How to water

Water the plant abundantly in the spring and summer, and moderately in the winter. As a rule, watering is done 2 times every 7 days. In no case should the earthen lump be allowed to completely dry out.

Humidity

The semi-shrub needs high air humidity. In order to provide it, it is necessary to pour a little pebbles or expanded clay into the pallet and pour in water, and the sanchezia also requires daily spraying.

Fertilizers

You need to fertilize this plant during transplantation. To do this, add 1 full large spoonful of granular fertilizer to the substrate.

Transplant features

It is necessary to replant once a year at the beginning of the spring period. For this they use heather soil mixed with part of the peat. Also, this procedure is carried out after the direct purchase of the plant (if it is an adult).

Reproduction methods

You can propagate by stem cuttings in the summer. It is necessary to cut a long stalk (no more than 15 centimeters), and then plant it for rooting in moist soil, which should be warm. A fairly high air temperature is required for the successful rooting of sankhetia. As a rule, after 4 weeks, roots are formed, and then the cutting is transplanted into a container of not very large size.

Plant features

Sanchezia can shed leaves if exposed to sudden changes in temperature.

Since after wintering the foliage loses its decorative effect, it is necessary to prune at the end of winter or early spring. For a while until the new foliage grows in the sanchetia, it is recommended to rearrange it in a place where it will not be visible, but at the same time all the necessary conditions for normal growth must be provided.

Diseases and pests

Can settle mealybug, while a cotton-like deposit will be noticeable on the surface of the sheet plate. To get rid of harmful insects, you need to moisten the sponge in soapy water and rinse the leaves. And then spray the plant with actellik and after a while repeat the treatment.
